HARMONICA PLAYER/HARMONICA TEACHER/ SESSION MUSICIAN/  AVAILABLE FOR HIRE 

Having started playing the harmonica at the age of 15 and gigging at 16 Rob McCann has already a lot of experience under his belt. Having initially studied a B-tech in jazz at Chichester College in 2012 Rob furthered his education to HND in Jazz at Chichester College under many a great tutors in the field before studying Jazz at Middlesex University in Hendon, London where he acquired a BA (hons.) Rob plays both the chromatic and diatonic harmonica and is one of the exceptional modern players who can play the diatonic chromatically by incorporating modern techniques. 

Rob continues to perform and collaborate with numerous artists (see below) covering a wide pallete of idioms and has supported and shared the stage with Iconic artists (blues legend – Johnny Mars, R&B star – Geno Washington, Skerryvore, The Men They Couldn’t Hang – to name a few.) In Rob’s career as a freelance musician he has gigged at notable festivals, theatres & venues such as the world famous The 100 Club in London, The Islington , Blues On The Farm, The Fleece Bristol etc.

Rob also works as a session player and has recorded at various studios around the UK (Brighton Road Recording Studios, Hermitage Work Studios, etc) and has featured with his harmonica in theatre productions such as CCAD’S production of Tommy at The Kings Theatre Southsea and more recently “The Story Of Love In The Harbour” – music by Danielle Morgan, John Merrigan, Andrew Dascalopoulos.

Aside from travelling to Studios for work Rob is also available to record remotely from home with the use of Logic Pro + Professional Studio equipment and doing this has appeared on a Celebratory digital album Celebrating Phil Wiggins dedicated to the Virtuoso harmonica player Phil Wiggins organised by Arizona Blues Hall of Famer Tom Walbank (who also features on the album). The Album features world class harmonica Players Charlie Musselwhite, Jason Ricci, Adam Gussow, Kim Wilson, Bob Corritore plus many others.

Currently Rob regularly collaborates/ guests with:

Vastopol newly formed band as of 2021, Vastopol have already supported prominent bands on the UK folk scene & Americana scene such as Skerryvore, The Men They Couldn’t Hang, Noble Jacks, True Strays, Dylan Earl, Jude Brothers etc.

Olivia Stevens & Co who he has had the pleasure of working with since playing harmonica on Olivia’s Album “Walk With Me” Under “Ruby & The Revelators, as well as supporting R&B Singer Geno Washington.

Danielle Morgan with her band – recently featuring on their lockdown videos which have boasted hundreds of thousands of views. 

Scatterguns – An extremely talented London/Brighton based Duo whom Rob has had the pleasure to record on their 2020 EP “Scatterguns”
